Award-winning author Curtis Chin will share his story of what it was like to come of age in a Chinese restaurant in Detroit, and the valuable lessons he learned about connecting with people from all walks of life on March 6, 2025 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Reilly Room.
Curtis Chin is one of the founders of the renowned nonprofit organization Asian American Writers’ Workshop (AAWW) in New York and was its first executive director. He went on to write for television, journals, and newspapers, and also makes social justice documentary films.
On his memoir Everything I Learned, I Learned in a Chinese Restaurant: “I’m not trying to write something nobody else has written before...I just tried to write a book that was true to my life experience. I know that typically books are written about the East Coast and the West Coast and that the Midwest experience is different.”
